Trump Alleges California Primary Fraud Amid Vote Count Delays
“The Dumocrats are at it again! They are trying to STEAL THE GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA PRIMARY, AND THE MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES, PRIMARY, AWAY FROM TWO GREAT REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He followed the accusation with another post criticizing the pace of vote tabulation, saying: “Here we go with the very late and massive numbers of MAIL IN BALLOTS.”
In a separate message, Trump renewed his allegations of election misconduct, writing: “There’s BIG cheating by the Dumocrats in California. Votes are all tied up. May not be in for weeks. Under investigation by the US Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles. Why the vote counting DELAY???”
The comments came after voters in six US states cast ballots in primary elections on Tuesday, with significant attention focused on California’s race for governor ahead of the November midterm elections.
As of early Thursday, Republican Steve Hilton was leading the gubernatorial primary field with 27.6% of the vote, followed by Xavier Becerra at 25.6%, with approximately 56% of ballots counted.
Meanwhile, the contest for mayor of Los Angeles remained closely watched. Incumbent Democratic Mayor Karen Bass secured 35% of the vote and the Associated Press (AP) projected her advancement to the November general election. However, the identity of her runoff opponent had yet to be determined.
Republican candidate Spencer Pratt, who has received backing from Trump, held 30.4% of the vote, while Nithya Raman stood at 29.9%, according to results based on 62% of ballots counted.
