Lavrov, Omani Counterpart Discuss Gulf Stability
(MENAFN) Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone discussion with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi regarding ongoing developments in the Middle East.
"During the talks, the ministers discussed key issues on the Middle East agenda, with a particular focus on the situation in the Persian Gulf region," the ministry said in a statement.
The two officials underlined the necessity of preventing another surge in violence and avoiding harm to civilian facilities caused by attacks targeting both Iranian land and nearby Arab countries.
"The ministers also stressed the need to avoid artificially escalating tensions within the UN Security Council and called for an immediate return to political and diplomatic efforts based on international law and taking into account the legitimate interests of all countries in the region," it noted.
Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s willingness to offer appropriate support in reaching these goals, including through the frameworks and actionable initiatives contained in Russia’s Collective Security Concept for the Persian Gulf area, according to the statement.
The discussion additionally addressed matters connected to the ongoing expansion of broad bilateral cooperation between Russia and Oman, the diplomatic service added.
