Provided by AGPAfter broader talks between the two delegations, Aliyev highlighted the importance of Italy as a major market for Azerbaijani energy exports, particularly oil and natural gas. He noted that Azerbaijan exported around 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas last year, with approximately 9.5 billion cubic meters directed to Italy.
He also said that discussions are ongoing to further increase export volumes in the future.
According to reports, Aliyev stressed that achieving this goal would require expanding the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which forms part of the wider Southern Gas Corridor. He added that while some expansion has already taken place, further development of the infrastructure is still in progress.
Aliyev described the relationship between the two countries as strategic, emphasizing that Italy remains Azerbaijan’s leading trade partner and a key economic collaborator.
The meeting underscored continued cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the energy sector, as both countries seek to strengthen long-term economic ties, according to official statements.
