Senate Democrats Demand Probe Into Deadly US Strike on Iranian School

(MENAFN) A total of 25 Senate Democrats have urged Congress to initiate a bipartisan investigation into a missile strike on an elementary school in Minab, Iran, in February, which reportedly killed at least 168 people, most of them children.

The lawmakers, led by Senator Raphael Warnock, sent a letter to the chairman of the Armed Services Committee requesting a detailed report and a public hearing on the incident. They also sought clarification on who was responsible, how the target was selected, and what measures are being put in place to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“Massive civilian casualty incidents like the attack in Minab are devastating to the Iranian civilian population and risk both undermining U.S. national security interests and rallying domestic support for the Iranian regime,” the senators wrote in their letter.

They emphasized the need for a "thorough investigation" conducted transparently to preserve the integrity and reputation of the US military.

A preliminary report reportedly concluded that US forces were responsible for the February 28 strike on the school, killing more than 170 people.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the Pentagon is investigating the incident but has not provided specifics regarding accountability or timelines. Previously, Hegseth stated that the US “never” targets civilians, adding, “We don't target. Iran does. We will investigate. We'll get to the truth, and we'll share it when we have it.”
