Ex-Georgian PM pleads guilty to money laundering
The office confirmed that a plea agreement was signed with Garibashvili, resulting in a prison term under Article 194, part three of Georgia’s Criminal Code. In addition to the prison sentence, he was fined 1 million lari (approximately $370,000), and assets obtained through illegal activities were confiscated by the state. “Irakli Garibashvili admits the crime and agrees with the terms of the plea agreement. The court has already satisfied the motion of the prosecutor's office on plea agreement,” the statement said.
Investigators allege that between 2019 and 2024, Garibashvili engaged in unlawful business activities and falsified income declarations. The case traces back to an October 2023 operation in which Georgian authorities seized over $7 million during searches of the homes of several former officials, including Garibashvili.
